Restaurant.com

Restaurant.com is a fabulous website that lets you buy restaurant gift certificates for pennies on the dollar. We have both used it several times and have never been disappointed!

Right now, Restaurant.com has a promotion that allows you to get a $25 gift certificate for only $2!! Simply select the restaurant of your choice, and at checkout enter code MEAL. You'll pay $2 and get a gift certificate for $25! You can print the certificates right from your computer and use it the same day.

** This is also a great site to use if you're going out of town and don't know where you're going to eat. Stacey and I both bought gift certificates before going to Florida last year and went to those restaurants instead of paying full price at a place we didn't even know if we'd like.

Here are a few of the restaurant gift certificates offered around Cincinnati:

Gina's Italian Food and Spirits (right behind Flubs)
The Manchester Room (in Middletown)
Brick Street Bar (in Oxford)
Lounge at the Courtyard Hamilton

There are 93 restaurants to choose from when you just search within 20 miles of Hamilton.  And each $25 certificate you purchase will only be $2 after the promo code!

**Please remember to tip based on the regular price of the meal BEFORE your coupon is applied. We usually get right around $25 worth of food, use the $25 certificate so that it's only a few dollars, but still tip based on the original price. It's common courtesy.**

Babys R Us Great Trade In Event!

The Great Trade In Event at Toys R Us/ Babies R Us is a great time to purchase any new items you need for your kids! We did this sale when they held it last year and were able to get some GREAT deals!

I (Jenna) traded my oldest daughter's car seat and got a new booster seat 25% off
I also traded my old stroller (torn up as it was) and got 25% off of a sit-and-stand stroller.
I also traded my youngest daughter's  "pumpkin" car seat  in for 25% off a forward-facing car seat.

Here are the items you can upgrade:
  • car seat
  • stroller
  • travel system
  • high chair
  • play yard
  • bassinet
  • crib
  • toddler bed
There's no limit on the amount of items you can trade, and you can purchase new items in a different category than what you're giving them. For example, you can bring in a stroller and use the 25% off on a new high chair. These coupons can be used the same day as your trade in and it only takes 5 extra minutes at checkout to complete the trade.

How I saved $$$ today!

Find Financial Planning and Investment Services
This morning I(Stacey) received a phone call from my 87 year old grandfather. He was having a major problem. That problem was his television was stuck on channel 9 and he was unable to change it. This was an easy enough fix. I drove to his house were he handed me the cable bill and I searched for the phone number to contact the company for a repair.

When I started to look over the bill I about fainted at what he is being charged. So the first thing I did was contact the customer service line and had them reboot his cable box. That was easy enough! The lady on the phone asked me if she could help with anything else today. I said "Yes you can send me over to the billing department I want to see if we can lower this bill."

I was connected to a nice lady who I told that I thought the bill was to high and before I start checking around with other cable providers I would like to see if they could do anything about it. That quick she said "Yes, I can remove this $2.95 fee for the channel guide he is receiving in the mail since it is also on the television when you select guide." I simply said "Okay is that all?" " I will also give him a $5.00 credit per month for the next 12 months."

It was that easy. I saved my grandfather $95.40 plus tax for the next year with that phone call. While some people see this as to small of an amount to worry about others think why not. It never hurts to ask or put a little threat in about switching companies. I had no intentions of switching his cable but had the feeling that since he has been with this company since May 1982(yes almost 30 years) they would at least give him some kind of discount to keep his business.

Give this a try on your home phone, cable and Internet company. I think you may be surprised to see what they will do. If you do call ask for the Retention Department and always be friendly!

Post a comment if you try this. Let us know if they worked with you to lower your bill.

What I Do With My Coupon Savings

Jenna here! I wanted to do a little post on what I do with all the money I save from coupons and freebies. I love using coupons, but there's no point doing it if you waste all the money you save. This is just my personal goal, but you can use your savings toward anything you'd like.

My 2nd daughter (Maci) has some medical issues that stem from when I was pregnant with her. I'm a private person so I'm not going to spill all the beans about it on the internet, but I'll just say it's something that's required LOTS of doctor visits, hospital appointments, a neurologist, a physical and speech therapist, an EEG, an MRI, lots of bloodwork, and ongoing treatment that we're just getting started with.  Needless to say, our family has LOTS and LOTS of medical bills! We're talking over $10,000 and she's only 16 months old. At one point about 6 months ago, we were paying 12 (yes, 12!) different doctors, hospitals, drug companies, or blood labs.  A lot of our bills are due to crummy insurance, but there's nothing we can do about it and crummy insurance is better than no insurance so I try not to complain. It is what it is and luckily medical debt doesn't charge interest, so as long as we pay something the doctors will leave us alone.
Getting back to my point! My plan of attack when using coupons is simple. The face value (dollar amount) of coupons I use is what goes into savings. So, for example, if I go to Kroger and use $25 in coupons, I put $25 in savings as soon as I get home. If I use a coupon and it gets doubled, I put in the doubled amount, not the face value. Some weeks it's more, some less. Last week I did a tiny grocery trip and only used $6, but I still put $6 in savings when I got done. This small amount every week really adds up quickly if you stick with it. It also inspires you to try to use as many coupons as possible so you can deposit more into savings every week. At the end of every month I take that "coupon money" and apply it toward a doctor bill. It's an extra payment on top of what I normally pay them each month and I always pay the doctor with the smallest balance first so I have one less doctor to pay sooner. With the help of the money I save couponing we've been able to pay off half of our doctors and now only pay 6 facilities each month. The doctors we have left to pay are ones who we owe more than $1000 to so they're going to take a while. :)
The other money I add to savings includes 1)any free deals I get, 2)any 1/2 price deals I buy, 3)any survey money I earn. When combining all of these funds, I create a lot of extra money!

- If we rent a movie with a free rental code, I put $1 in savings. (Sounds dorky, but once again it adds up)
- When I bought my $20 Amazon gift card for $10, I put the other $10 in savings. Then, when I bought diapers on Amazon ($28.62 total) and paid with all gift cards, I put $28.62 in savings.
-When I earned $385 and a $25 Kroger gift card from surveys this month I put all that  money into savings.
-When I redeemed my Visa Points for $50 Lowes g/c, $10 CVS g/c, and $10 Olive Garden g/c, I also deposited all of that money into savings!
I'm pretty hardcore when it comes to this because I refuse to be in debt! Basically, any deal I get that I would've otherwise spent money on, I put that amount into savings as if I did spend it.
So, grand total deposited into savings so far this month is:
                        CVS gift card redemption                          $10
                        Lowes gift card redemption                       $50
Olive Garden gift card redemption             $10
                        Survey money/Kroger gift card                  $410
                        Amazon Gift Card Deal                             $10
                        Diaper Deal on Amazon                            $28.62
                        4 Free Movie Rentals                                $4
                        $6 in coupons used                                   $6
                        Total in Savings                                     $528.62

Hope this gives some of you an idea to maybe save your coupon money for either something you really want or some bills you need to pay down! Once again, there's no point couponing if you waste the money you save!!  We're going to be adding a feature soon where you'll be able to see our savings goals and watch our progress as we get closer to them. Keeps us motivated and hopefully will motivate you, too!

**P.S. Think of me the next time you complain about getting a $25 doctor bill!lol I'll trade you anyday!**

Lowes Free Craft Workshop For Kids

Atleast one Saturday a month,  Lowes holds a "Build and Grow Workshop" at their stores for kids in first through fifth grade. At this class, the kids receive free goggles, an apron, and a craft kit. Then they get to build their own "craft of the day"! Tomorrow (1/23/11) the craft is a ball toss game. However, February 12th is "music box" day! How cute is that?! Simply click here to register at your nearest store.

**We took Kenzie to one of these over the summer, and even though she's only 4, she still built herself a little "Lowes" race car and brought it home. Parents are more than welcome to help assemble the craft so Matt did all the hammering. She still uses her goggles and apron as dress up items.**

New Blockbuster Express Free Rental Codes!

Just go to your local BlockBuster Express (there's one at Speedway by Hamilton High), pick your movie to rent, then press the "promo" button to enter the code. This will give you a FREE one night movie rental! It does still require a credit card just in case you don't return it by 9pm the next day. If it's not returned on time, they charge you $1.  These are the same movies you'd find at Blockbuster, including all the new releases. Free movie night for us this weekend!

**You can use each code one time per card. Between my husband and I, we have 4 cards so we use each code 4 times and get 4 free rentals.**

Our 2nd Favorite Hobby Besides Coupons!

Hopefully we're helping you find great deals and save money, so let's now talk about how to earn extra money! Stacey introduced me to this when we met and we both earn a good amount of money from it. So, what is it, you may ask?! MARKET RESEARCH STUDIES!!! Woohoo!

You may think of studies or surveys as all being scams, but these are all local survey companies who Stacey and I have both used over and over and over again. I've also referred several coworkers and even my mom to these places with great success for them. They always pay and we've never had any issues with any of them. The studies usually pay between $25 and $100 and typically last an hour.

Market Research Companies we use:

- J and R J and R Coordinating
- Qfact Marketing Qfact
- Assistance in Marketing Research AIM
- Product Solutions CPG Product Solutions
-P&G Discovery Center (513) 626-2852     ***Great for moms who want FREE diapers to test!

These companies are all located within 45 minutes of Hamilton and are FABULOUS!! You can go to each website and register to be a panelist. Then, you wait! They'll begin emailing you when they have a study available for you to qualify for. Simply respond to the email if you're interested and they will call you within a day or two and ask you "qualifying" questions to see if you're what they want for their survey.

There are several types of surveys you can do; taste tests, in person interviews where you give them your opinions, online surveys, extended period surveys where you make more than one visit, in home product trials. The list goes on and on! We average about 2 or 3 surveys a month, but some months you can get much more.

Here's my (Jenna) survey earnings for the month of January alone:

J and R in home survey  $75
J and R in home survey $50
Qfact interview (6 month study) $60
Qfact online survey (6 month study $50
J and R taste test and online survey $25
P&G diaper survey $25 gift card to Kroger
Product Solutions in home survey $50
J and R in home survey $75

Total From Surveys for January: $385 and a $25 Kroger card!! Not too shabby!

P&G is great for moms with kids in diapers. I use their Discovery Center to test diapers and wipes on Maci (it's not dangerous, they're Pampers or some other name brand) and they give you the product for free, plus gift cards to either Meijer, Kroger, or LaRosas. I didn't buy diapers at all in December because I qualified for so many surveys with P&G.

If you want any more information on surveys, let me or Stacey know! Good luck!
